French President Francois Hollande has declared a start of an unprecedented counter-terrorism operation. A warship left the military port of Toulon yesterday and headed towards the Indian Ocean to join the international coalition fighting terrorists in the region, TASS reports.
Hollande clarified that the number of police officers, gendarmes and soldiers in patrols had increased lately. He expressed regret that the coalition had not started an operation in Syria earlier.
Speaking of Iraq, the French leader said that the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier will assist the operation. The situation in the Middle East demanded the carrier's presence, he concluded.
