In the United States the joint fight with the Soviet Union against fascism is remembered, State Department spokesman Marie Harf claimed, as she assured that the US is preparing to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the victory in World War II this year. They remember the historical context against the background of which fascism was defeated.
"We know that now a lot of anniversary events are being discussed,” clarified Harf. Something was already celebrated in the past year, in particular D-Day (the day of the Allied landings in Normandy in the summer of 1944). The planning of all of this is still at an early stage. "
"Naturally, we are all aware of the history, how we interacted with the then-Soviet Union in the struggle against fascism,” continued the representative of the US State Department. “But for specific events the planning still continues," TASS quotes Harf.
