Russian President Vladimir Putin held an unscheduled meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council.
At the meeting, according to preaidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, "exacerbation of the situation in the south-east of Ukraine and the preparations for a possible meeting in the "Normandy format" were discussed.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, Chairman of the State Duma Sergei Naryshkin, head of the Russian presidential administration Sergei Ivanov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the Head of Foreign Intelligence Service Mikhail Fradkov, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and his deputy Rashid Nurgaliyev, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, and permanent member of the Security Council Boris Gryzlov took part in the meeting.
Talks between the leaders of Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine are called the Normandy format. Meetings of the Quartet were calles this after the first summit in June 2014 in Normandy. Now we are preparing the next meeting of the leaders in the Normandy format to resolve the situation in Ukraine. Kazakhstan may become the possible place of the meeting.
