US President Barack Obama Obama said that he would veto a bill calling for new sanctions if it is passed by Congress.
He explained that the current sanctions have a positive effect on the process of closing the nuclear issue, but Tehran should be able to move towards a diplomatic solution to the conflict. "Our negotiators, our partners, those who are most intimately involved in this, assess that it will jeopardize the possibility of resolving a providing a diplomatic solution to one of the most difficult and long-lasting national security problems that we've faced in a very long time," said Obama, noting the Russian contribution in negotiations.
The US President also added that the absence of a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue will increase the chances of a military conflict with Iran. "Congress should be aware that if this diplomatic solution fails, then the risks and likelihood that this ends up being, at some point, a military confrontation is heightened," RIA Novosti cited him.
