Turkish President will chair cabinet meeting for the first time

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will chair a cabinet meeting for the first time.

The first directly elected president in the history of the Republic convenes the Cabinet to discuss coordination between the government and the presidential administration.

Devlet Bahçeli, the chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party, said that Erdoğan has the constitutional prerogative to chair the Cabinet meeting for a one-off session. "However, it could be considered as an "insult" to the prime minister and parlament if the president is attempting to hold this meeting in an effort to change the current political system into a presidential one," TASS cited him.

Under the new scheme, within the Presidency 12 new desks will be founded to develop policies and strategies, to take a role in coordinating state institutions and consulting the government.

Each of them has a separate activity: foreign relations, national security, social and cultural work, economic monitoring and public relations.
