Syria destroys remaining chemical arms facilities

Syria has finally started destroying the remaining facilities used for production of chemical weapons. The process at one of them was postponed from December 24 due to snow storms. Concrete walls will isolate the facility by the end of January, RIA Novosti reports. 

U.S. Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Rose Gottemoeller said at an OPCW session that some aspects of the chemical arms program of Syria needed eliminating. 

The OPCW declared the decomposition of 97.8% of chemicals from Syria in late October. The destruction of 7 hangars and 5 underground facilities for production of chemical weapons was due to start in December and end at the end of June. The first one will be destroyed no later than mid-January 2015.
