France’s free speech double standard

France’s free speech double standard

The Washington Post's cartoonist Ann Telnaes exposes the double standards in French society in her latest column.

Her caricature is a response to the arrest of the French comedian Dieudonne M'bala M'balafor, who posted a Facebook comment appearing to condone terrorism.

He wrote “Je suis Charlie Coulibaly”, in a reference to gunman Amedy Coulibaly, who killed four hostages in a kosher supermarket in Paris on January 9th.

The cartoon of Ann Telnaes depicts a man with a banner saying "Je suis Coulibaly", his hands shackled with chains, his mouth gagged with a French flag.
