Regarding Syria, Turkey primarily seeks the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad and his government, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated.
"Our policy toward Syria is well-known, we should say it openly. We are not thinking of making any changes to it. Our target is the regime [of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad -VK]," Tass cited him as saying.
Erdogan pointed out that "three things should be resolved, including the establishment of security zones inside Syria, the declaration of a no-fly zone, and the launch of a training and equipping operation.
"But without this, the problem will not be solves. Again, it will happen as in Iraq. And we do not want a new Iraq. A northern Syria there after northern Iraq... It is not possible for us to accept this," the president said.
