New sanctions against Russia will be discussed at the EU Council on January 29.
European Union leaders asked their foreign ministers on Tuesday to consider an appropriate response to renewed fighting in eastern Ukraine, including new sanctions against Russia.
"In view of the worsening situation we ask the upcoming Foreign Affairs Council to assess the situation and to consider any appropriate action, in particular on further restrictive measures aimed at a swift and comprehensive implementation of the Minsk agreements," Tass cited the statement.
According to Reuters news agency, the imposition of new sanctions might be considered on February 12.
