Obama and Merkel agree on the financial support for Kiev

US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the events in Ukraine during a telephone call on Tuesday.

During the conversation the sides agreed on the need to continue to provide financial assistance to Kiev.

"The two leaders expressed concern about significant rise of violence in eastern Ukraine," RIA Novosti reported, with reference to the White House.

In addition, Obama and Merkel noted the need for financial support for Ukraine to enable it to stabilize its economy as it continues to implement reforms that will "lay the groundwork for a return to growth and prosperity."
