Spain's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation José Manuel García-Margallo during a meeting with Turkey's EU Affairs Minister Volkan Bozkir in Madrid said that Spain calls on Turkey to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fight against Islamic terrorists, especially against so-called "foreign fighters".
The Turkish foreign minister stressed the important role of Turkey in the conflict in the Middle East and praised the contribution of this country in welcoming thousands of refugees from Syria and Iraq, Tass reports.
The ministers also discussed the prospects for trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, including the implementation of joint projects in Central Asia and other regions.
Garcia-Margalit said that the Spanish government supports Turkey's aspiration to join the EU and assured that Spain would do its best to promote this initiative.
