Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze refuted rumors about the country's plans to create a confederation with Azerbaijan, Trend reports.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili's statement earlier this week about the possible establishment of a confederation with the neighboring state should not be taken out of context, the minister said. The president was simply stressing the strong ties between Georgia and Azerbaijan, he added.
Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze earlier also said discussions had been held to create a confederation, adding that a number of "technical" issues were still to be discussed.
