Today, the Italian Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern over the decision of the Israeli authorities to build a new residential building on the territory of the West Bank of the Jordan River, which by international law is considered to be Palestinian land.
Yesterday the Israeli authorities announced a tender for the construction of 450 "housing units" in the Jewish settlements of that area.
"This decision further complicates efforts to restart talks between the parties, and appears to be inconsistent with what the government of Israel has repeatedly confirmed – the desire to achieve peace based on the existence of two states," RIA Novosti leads the message of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Italy calls on the Israeli government to reconsider this decision and the whole policy of establishing settlements on the "occupied territories," the document says
