The EU will help Ukraine reform Security Service and police

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved an agreement between Ukraine and the European Union on the status of the Consultative EU mission.

The Consultative EU mission is aimed at reforming the civil security sector of Ukraine, allowing the EU to form the power structures of the country. 272 deputies voted for the ratification of the agreement.

The Advisory Mission will help Ukraine to reform the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, which administers the police, the National Guard, the Security Service of Ukraine and the border guards.

EU representatives will monitor the implementation of decisions and compliance with new legislation in the field of security. The mission will be able to buy premises, vehicles and to employ local residents, Tass reports.

It is assumed, according to Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin, that the term of the mission will be limited to two years. The budget structure will amount to €13 million.
