Yanukovych is no longer president

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted a law, according to which Viktor Yanukovych has been stripped of his title of President of Ukraine.

 

281 parliamentarians voted for this decision of parliament. The law was proposed by the Radical Party of Ukraine, and parliamentary speaker Vladimir Groisman instructed work on this issue to the Verkhovna Rada. 

 

The leader of the Radical Party, Oleg Lyashko, explained later that formally Yanukovych still holds the title of president.

 

Yanukovych was actually removed from power during the political crisis in Ukraine, and on February 22nd 2014 the Verkhovna Rada announced that he "withdrew himself from the execution of constitutional powers", and set a date for early presidential elections. 

 

On May 25th 2014 the citizens of Ukraine elected Poroshenko as their new president.
