Chairman of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger has declared the opening of this year’s session. The Conference spend three days discussing the Ukrainian crisis and the conflict in the Middle East. Ischinger has already called the year catastrophic for the international policy.
He reminded that neglect towards ISIS a few years ago resulted in strengthening of the organization. Concerning Ukraine, the German diplomat called its developments the most serious crisis of international security since the fall of the USSR.
German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen and the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg were the first to take the floor at the Conference after Ischinger’s opening speech.
