Ban Ki-moon hopes the Minsk agreement will be respected

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that he expects that the parties to the conflict in Ukraine will comply with their obligations under the Minsk agreement.

"The Secretary-General expects that the commitments which have been made in Minsk will be respected by the parties. He urges the parties concerned to ensure that a genuine and lasting ceasefire will commence on 15 February as agreed, paving the way for a broader political settlement of the conflict, based on the Minsk accords," RIA Novosti cited the press service of the UN.

Ban also said that the UN stands ready to assist "in any way deemed helpful", and promised that the UN would continue to monitor the human rights situation in Ukraine and deliver humanitarian support to those in need.

Also, the report stresses that Ban Ki-moon shares the position of the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany, which is "full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine."
