Mayor of London Boris Johnson has announced his intention to renounce his US citizenship to prove his loyalty to Britain.
He was born in New York in 1964 and, along with being a British subject, has US citizenship.
"The reason that I might want to make this change is that I have always been faithful and loyal to Britain," Johnson said in an interview to the Sunday Times.
He also added that he will appeal to the US Ambassador Matthew Barzun to find out what needs to be done to renounce US citizenship. According to the mayor, this is a "time-consuming process."
One possible reason for such a decision is the unwillingness of Johnson to pay tax to the US. Recently he had to pay tax on the sale of his house in the north of London, RIA Novosti reports.
