Interior Ministry wants harsher punishment for terrorism

The head of the Main Department of the Ministry of Interior Affairs
for the North Caucasus Federal District (NCFD), Sergey Chenchik,
believes that terrorists and extremists should face harsher
punishments and specialized detention centers.

Chenchik said that such detention centers need special staff, skilled
psychologists, and psychiatrists, RIA Novosti reports.

Chenchik said that sentences for extremists and terrorists should be
increased. He pointed out the USA as an example of when a terrorist
was jailed for life for planning a terrorist attack in New York.

The official also believes that people who were involved in extremist
cases should be monitored by the police after their release.
