Majilis applies to Nazarbayev to consider possibility of early election

Members of Kazakhstan's Majilis (Parliament’s lower chamber) have applied to Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev with an initiative to hold early presidential elections. 

 

“We ask you to support the initiative of the Council of the People's Assembly of Kazakhstan, and in accordance with paragraph 1.3 of Article 41 of the Constitution to consider the possibility to call for an early presidential election,” the parliamentary member Kabibulla Dzhakupov told the Kazakh president. 

 

104 deputies unanimously supported the proposal and rose in applause, Interfax reports. It was noted that the Parliament had received a number of similar proposals from voters from different social groups residing in all regions of the country.

 

Moreover, the initiative on holding early presidential election was welcomed by political parties, civil society, businessmen, veterans and youth.Thr previous presidential election in Kazakhstan took place on April, 2011 and the current President Nursultan Nazarbayev won 95.55% of the vote.
