Greece elects a new president

Prokopis Pavlopoulos' candidacy for the post of President of Greece has been supported by SYRIZA, Independent Greeks and New Democracy. 

 

Pavlopoulos was elected in a 238 vote in the 300-seat parliament, defeating fellow law professor and center-left candidate Nikos Alivizatos, who was backed by the centrist To Potami party and the Panhellenic Socialist Movement, Tass reports.
