Yevgeny Kopatko, the founder of Research & Branding Group (Ukraine), has presented a report on social sentiment in Ukraine.50% of people questioned do not rule out a new Maidan, 21% consider it necessary, 20% are ready to take part in it. The approval rating of the Ukrainian president was quite high in April and May, according to Kopatko, the current rating is about 45%.
In his words, the rating is quite high, there have been only 3-4 periods in the history of Ukraine when its leaders had a rating above 50%. Victor Yushchenko had a similar approval rating prior to the Orange Revolution, his rating was above 50% for 5 months after the revolution.
Poroshenko, according to Kopatko’s studies, is still a needed figure in the country.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk is another popular politician, he adds. The expert said that an approval of over 30% for top politicians was extremely high.
Over 50% of people questioned by Research & Branding Group approve of the counter-terrorism operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. 37% disapprove, thus the majority of Ukraine, says Kopatko, wants the operation to continue. 29% stood for a forceful solution to the conflict in February 2015, over 60% for negotiations.
The expert believes that the Minsk Agreements will have a certain impact on public opinion.
