Bin Laden planned terrorist attacks in Russia

The terrorist organization Al-Qaeda planned to carry out terrorist attacks in Russia, including blowing up a gas pipeline and attacking the US Embassy in Moscow, declassified documents obtained after the 2011 raid of Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan said.

The documents were presented at the trial of Pakistani citizen Abid Naseer in New York. Naseer is charged with involvement in Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist plots. Among the documents were exchanges of messages between bin Laden and other terrorists.

Some messages say that Al-Qaeda planned to send militants to Russia to carry out terrorist attacks, including blowing up a gas pipeline or attacking the US Embassy in Moscow. Terrorist attacks were also planned in other countries, including "several targets" in Britain.

Naseer, 28, was extradited from Britain to the US in 2013. He pleaded not guilty to having ties with Al-Qaeda and complicity in preparing terrorist attacks.
