EU countries should create an energy alliance and ensure independence from energy suppliers, the First Vice-President ofthe European Commission, Franz Timmermans, said today.
"Given the situation with Russia and the Middle East, the EU should create an energy alliance. No country in the world should be totally dependent on the mercy of a single energy supplier. And we need to overcome this dependence," Timmermans said, noting that some European countries are highly dependent on Russian gas supplies.
According to him, the EU is lagging behind in the field of digital technology from the United States, Gazeta.ru reports.
