The Japanese government has urged former Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama to cancel a planned visit to Crimea, Chief Cabinet Secretary Minister Yoshihide Suga said.
"Hatoyama’s plan is very regrettable. We are asking him not to going there. Given the fact that he held the post of Prime Minister, the negative effects could be quite large," he said.
Earlier, Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida stated Japan has never recognized the unilateral annexation of Crimea to Russia.
