Qatari authorities call for the Egyptian pyramids to be blown up

The Ministry of Religion of Qatar has called for the Egyptian pyramids to be blown up. Egyptian media, and in particular the newspaper 'Al-Youm al-Sabaa', drew attention to a fatwa published on the website Islam Web. This religious instruction calls for objects of the 'Heritage of the Pharaonic era' to be blown up for being contrary to Islamic values.

The Islam Web site is associated with Qatar's Ministry of Religious Affairs and, as noted, represents the official views of the authorities of Qatar. The most popular is "Questions and Answers" - any true believer can find here the view of the religious authorities, NEWSru Israel reports.

A request about the symbols of Egypt received the following reply: "The Pyramids and the Sphinx are pagan idols. Their destruction is the duty of every true believer." The answer of the theologians is a fatwa - a religious injunction.

It is noteworthy that the answer to the question was published in 2012. However, it drew attention only now, after the destruction of priceless monuments of ancient history in Mosul by militants of Islamic State (IS). Symbols of Iraq were destroyed too - the winged lions of Nimrud.

Islam Web first came to the attention of the media in 2006. Then, in response to the appeal by a reader, the site has called burning people alive acceptable. After the burning of a captive Jordanian pilot by militants of IS, this statement was removed.
