Russia had a record year for arms exports

Russia at the end of 2014 retained its position as the second-biggest exporter on the international arms market in the world after the US, according to a report published by the American company IHS, which conducts annual monitoring of the global arms market.

"Russia had a record year - the country's exports in 2014 totaled $10 billion, which is an increase of 9% compared to the year 2013," the report says. IHS experts point out that the largest recipients of Russian exports are China ($2.3 billion), India ($1.7 billion), as well as Venezuela and Vietnam (under $1 billion), RIA Novosti reports.

In five of the world's leading exporters of arms in 2013, and in 2014 the first places were occupied by the US, Russia, France, Britain and Germany respectively, according to the study.

Most of all military spending in 2014 was spent by Saudi Arabia, overtaking the previous leader India.

Last year, the number of transactions in the world's military spending increased by 13% due to the procurement of military aviation by developing countries and the unstable situation in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region.
