Protests and demonstrations to be legalized in Turkmenistan on July 1

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has signed a law legalizing protests and demonstrations in the country on July 1, 2015. The enacting clause published in media today says that the law realizes the constitutional right for protests and demonstrations, RIA Novosti reports.

They can be organized by adults with permanent residence in Turkmenistan, political parties, public associations and religious organizations. People with legal incompetence and pending sentences, illegal public associations and religious organizations are not allowed to organize protests. Foreign financing of protests will not be allowed either.
