Steinmeier: only verifiable agreement with Iran to be signed

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington that the five permanent members of the Security Council plus Germany will sign an agreement with Iran on the settlement of its nuclear problem only if it proves to be "verifiable and designed for the long term."

Steinmeier criticized Republican senators for sending a letter to Iran over the nuclear talks.

"There is no need for any disturbance in the negotiations," Steinmeier said about the letter. According to Steinmeier, such actions "do not contribute to" the political opposition of the US to overcome the crisis over Tehran's nuclear program. This diplomatic process is currently at a "delicate phase," the Minister added.
