The Central Electoral Commission of Kazakhstan has adopted a resolution on the registration of Nursultan Nazarbayev as presidential candidate in the upcoming early election.
The CEC members voted unanimously for his inclusion, Interfax informs.
The current head of Kazakhstan was promoted by his party "Nur Otan" ("Light of the Fatherland"), becoming the first candidate to receive an official registration of the CEC from more than two dozen citizens applying to run for the presidency.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, who will turn 75 this year, is the first president of independent Kazakhstan. Since 1991, when the country gained its sovereignty, he has confidently won several times in open direct presidential elections (the last time in April 2011).
The extraordinary presidential elections are scheduled for April 26.
