German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the crisis in Syria can only be ended at the negotiating table, even if it requires the participation of President Bashar al-Assad.
"The way to end the violence will only be achieved through negotiations for a political solution. Even though this will require negotiations with the Assad regime," TASS cited him as saying.
Steinmeier supported the efforts of the UN Secretary General's special envoy Staffan de Mistura, who continues to discuss options for resolving the crisis in the Syria with Damascus and the Syrian opposition.
