UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Petko Draganov of Bulgaria as his Special Representative and the head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA).
The UNRCCA was established by the Security Council at the initiative of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in connection with the growth of international terrorism and illegal drug production.
The center also cooperates with regional structures, primarily the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The headquarters is located in Ashgabat.
