Islamic states should resolve their problems in coordination and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is a good platform in this regard, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said after a meeting with his Sudanese counterpart Ali Ahmed Karti.
According to Mammadyarov, an agreement on cooperation on this issue was reached during the meeting.
Political relations between Azerbaijan and Sudan are at a high level, both in the bilateral format and in the international arena. We always support each other in the international arena, Mammadyarov said.
Azerbaijan is also interested in developing economic relations with Sudan, which is rich in oil and gold. There are several projects on further cooperation, he added.
The two countries also intend to expand the legal framework. A protocol on cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries was signed today.
Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ali Ahmed Karti said that Sudan supports Azerbaijan’s fair position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “The purpose of my visit is to develop cooperation, the two countries especially have great opportunities to develop the ties in the energy sphere,” Trend cited Karti as saying.
Sudan intends to benefit from Azerbaijan’s experience in this sphere. "We are also interested in organizing the education of Sudanese students in Azerbaijani universities," he added.
At the same time, Sudan invites Azerbaijani businessmen to invest in its economy, particularly in the spheres of energy, gold production and others.
Sudan’s government is ready to support Azerbaijani investments. Work is underway on draft agreements on mutual investment protection and exemption from double taxation, the Sudanese Minister said.
