The US welcomes the release of four activists of Azerbaijani non-governmental organizations, the State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said on Thursday.
"The United States welcomes the March 18 pardon and release of Bashir Suleymanli, the Executive Director of the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center in Azerbaijan, as well as three others considered by Azerbaijani NGOs to have been incarcerated for their civic activism," RIA Novosti sited her words.
She also call on Azerbaijan to take additional positive steps in the field of human rights and freedoms.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev pardoned Suleymanli this week among a group of 101 other convicted people. The pardon was timed for the holiday of Novruz.
