Russian President Vladimir Putin has rounded up the military drills of March at a meeting with Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu and Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov. Overall, Putin praised the military for their progress at the drills. Shoygu reminded that the drills underwent the first snap inspection this year, following such inspections in 2013-2014, TASS reports.
The defense minister emphasized that the snap inspection of the commander-in-chief on March 16-21 served to assess the potential of the Joint Strategic Command of the Northern Fleet. He concluded that Putin's objective to improve military control, set in May 2014, was sucessfully accomplished.
Gerasimov clarified that the drills were notable for the first use of a military signal of military control from a unified center to offensive strategic naval forces.
