Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has proposed increasing the number of border guards from the current 50,000 to 53,000. He said in his proposal to the parliament that the guards will secure the state border in the east more efficiently, make use of new mobile reserves, TASS reports.
Poroshenko's proposal will need additional 377.6 million hryvnias (about $17 million) for realization. The current border guards consist of 50,000 people, including 42,000 soldiers.
