EU urges Georgia to make courts more independent

 

The European Commission has prepared a report on implementation of the European Neghbourhood Policy in Georgia for 2014, urging the republic to carry on with reforming the judicial system, RIA Novosti reports.The document touches upon reforms of the prosecution system and independence of the courts. The authors of the report advise Georgia to strengthen the separation of the branches of power within the framework of the constitutional reform.They encourage Georgia to improve the political climate via the inter-party dialogue, liberties of opposition, better control over the police.Georgia will receive about 410 million euros throughout 2014-2017 to develop the reforms in state governance, agriculture and justice.
