Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov is sure that emissary of Chechen separatists, Ahmed Zakayev. was involved in a militant attack on his home village of Tsentoroy on late August 29, RIA Novosti reports.
17 policemen, 7 locals, and 15 militants died in the fighting.
Kadyrov said at the Universal Chechen Congress in Grozny that Zakayev and Huseyn Gakayev, a separatist leader, organized the attack on Tsentoroy to attract attention.
One and a half years ago the Chechen president invited Zakayev, a former actor, to return to the republic and offered him the chance to perform at the Grozny theatre. Zakayev said that he will not return until negotiations for the political settlement of the Chechen conflict start.
Salambek Khadzhiyev, famous Chechen scientist, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, gave a negative comment on Zakayev, saying that he is making declarations to earn for living. Khadzhiyev said that people now understand Zakayev’s words and will not be tricked.
The congress was participated by approximately a thousand people, including representatives of communities living in CIS, Europe and USA.
