Sadovnichy: MSU has outstanding branch in Baku

The Baku branch of Moscow State University is an outstanding branch, the rector of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, Viktor Sadovnichy, told Vestnik Kavkaza. "This branch works very successfully, an enrollment of about 500 students. It has the support of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who pays great attention to the branch," the rector said.

"At the moment, a beautiful campus is being built in a very good location. The educational process uses the program of the Moscow State University. Professors come from MSU, as well as diplomas. I was in Baku recently and gave a lecture at the branch office. It seems to me that this is an outstanding place for education in Azerbaijan," he said.

Sadovnichy also addressed the issue of establishing a joint Russian-Chinese University. "This university is being established by Moscow State University and Beijing Technological University in Shenzhen in China. There is an active construction phase now, so classes will begin in the fall. It is the first time for Russia that it's not a branch being created, but a whole joint University on the basis of two leading universities of both countries," he explained.

In addition, the rector spoke about the situation with the branch in Yerevan. "Recently, there was a meeting with the Minister of Education of Armenia, at which we signed an agreement to open a branch in Yerevan. In the near future a delegation will visit the capital to address the issues of possible recruitment of students this year," he pointed out.

"We have to look around to find out what sort of Russian-language schools they have, what a contingent. Depending on the analysis of this delegation, we will decide how many students we can accept," Sadovnichy concluded.
