"The election was held in a calm atmosphere, no violations were reported. The polling stations are closed, the voting is over, the members of electoral commissions are counting the votes," RIA Novosti quotes the deputy head of the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic, Komiljon Adilov, as saying.
Preliminary election results will be announced tomorrow.
The candidates for the presidency were incumbent President Islam Karimov, nominated by the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, Hatamzhon Ketmonov (People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan), Akmal Saidov (National Democratic Party) Milly Tiklanish ("National Revival" ) and Narimon Umarov (Social Democratic Party Adolat 'Justice').
