The current president of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, won the country’s presidential election, scoring 90.39% of the vote, the head of the Uzbek Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov told a briefing.
"As many as 17.2 million people, or 90.39% of those who came to the polls, cast their ballots for Karimov," TASS cited him as saying.
In accordance with Article 35 of the Law 'On Presidential Elections in the Republic of Uzbekistan' this makes him elected for another term of office.
