German Chancellor Angela Merkel has expressed hope that Iran and the Group of Six (the five permanent members of the UNSC and Germany) will reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program in Lausanne (Switzerland). She noted that the mediators need confidence that Iran will not develop nuclear weapons, RIA Novosti reports.
Iran and the Group of Six started the current round of talks in Lausanne last week. The disputed issues are the schedule for lifting sanctions, the fate of Iran's nuclear facilities, the number of centrifuges Iran will keep after signing the document, and the prospects of moving nuclear fuel out of the country. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said earlier that there were chances of reaching a compromise.
