UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon met with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee on Refugees and IDPs, Ali Hasanov as part of the third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria, AzerTAc reports.
During the meeting Ban Ki-moon said he would visit Azerbaijan in 2016, but his special representative would attend an international event to be held in Baku in May 2015. Ban Ki-moon stressed the importance of the favorable geographical position of Azerbaijan, adding that the UN will continue to cooperate with Baku.
Ali Hasanov, in his turn, said that Azerbaijan, which faces the problems of occupation of 20% of its land and more than a million refugees and IDPs, well understands the situation of the Syrian refugees.
The parties also discussed ways to expand relations between Azerbaijan and the UN, Interfax-Azerbaijan reports.
