President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the chairman of the Russian Cinematographers Union, film director Nikita Mikhalkov today.
Mikhalkov said he was pleased to visit Azerbaijan, noting that he has witnessed unprecedented development in Baku. He recalled with pleasure that an episode in one of his films was shot in the Azerbaijani capital.
Mikhalkov praised national leader Heydar Aliyev's role in establishing and strengthening statehood after Azerbaijan restored its independence, Trend reports.
President Aliyev in his turn said that Azerbaijani-Russian ties were developing in various fields, including in the humanitarian area.
Ilham Aliyev said Mikhalkov’s visit will contribute to the development of cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Russia. The president said culture, including cinematography, enjoys state support in Azerbaijan, adding that continuous work is being carried out to promote Azerbaijani culture worldwide.
The parties also exchanged views on prospects for cooperation between the two countries in culture, including cinematography.
