A regional court in the Stavropol Territory has dismissed the mayor of Georgiyevsk, Victor Gubanov, who is suspected of taking a 1.8-billion-ruble bribe, RIA Novosti reports, citing an employee of the court“s office.
The mayor is believed to have taken the bribe from the head of the trading center in Georgiyevsk to be allowed to construct a building. Gubanov was hospitalized with a heart attack on September 15, when charges were brought.
Gubanov“s lawyer said that the court's decision has not come into force yet. He added that Gubanov had signed his retirement notice earlier.
The mayor“s press-secretary, Yelena Ternovenko, said that she does not have information about the mayor's retirement because he was in hospital.
The head of the press-service of the Russian Ministry of Interior Affairs for the North Caucasus Federal District, Mark Tolchinskiy, told RIA Novosti that Gubanov was dismissed by the initiative of the investigation.
