The Russian mission to the United Nations has not received any proposals from Western states on new sanctions against Iran, the RIA Novosti news agency said on Thursday, citing a Russian delegation source.
On Wednesday, U.S., French and U.K. diplomats told journalists they had forwarded draft proposals on a new Security Council resolution on a fresh set of sanctions against Tehran to the Russian and Chinese delegations at the UN. The U.S. is leading calls for harsher sanctions against Iran over its move to begin enriching uranium to 20% in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions.
Another UN source told RIA Novosti that "work on the resolution on Iran within the framework of the UN Security Council is yet to begin."
