Hungary, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey sign declaration on energy cooperation

The Foreign Affairs Ministers of Serbia, Greece and Macedonia and the Minister for EU Affairs of Turkey have signed a joint declaration on strengthening energy cooperation in the region.

“We expressed our support for creating a commercially viable option of route and source diversification for delivering natural gas from the Republic of Turkey through the territories of our countries to the countries of Central and Southeastern Europe,” RIA Novosti reports with reference to the document.

The declaration states that several natural gas infrastructure projects are currently being implemented, or planned to be realized in the future in order to improve natural gas supplies at the national and regional levels. This will allow the sides to support the energy markets of Turkey, the European Union and the Contracting Parties of the Energy Community through the Southern Gas Corridor, as well as provide new possibilities for creating regional economic development via interconnecting the natural gas infrastructures of our countries with European Union financial assistance, according to the authors of the declaration.
