The participants of the round table in the State Duma decided that the Agency for Nationalities, established on March 31, will require special advisory body to work effectively.
"All three functions - production, implementation and monitoring of the state national policy - will be concentrated in one body. It will be a very powerful structure," TASS cited the Secretary on National Policy of the Presidium of the Central Council of the party 'Fair Russia', State Duma deputy Fedot Tumusov.
"Obviously, there must be an agency advisory body," he said.
Deputy Director of the Institute for Ethnology and Anthropology of the RAS, Vladimir Zorin, told Vestnik Kavkaza that this authority will carry out the examination necessary for good governance in this area. "In our multinational country expert assessment is of great importance," Zorin said.
Politician and member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, Sergey Markov, supported this initiative. "Of course, we need a separate expert body. And I think the Agency for Nationalities needs it more than other structures. And there must be experts and representatives of ethnic groups to express their own points of view," he explained.
A member of the Russian Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations, Maxim Shevchenko, in his turn, noted that the Federal Agency for Nationalities could use the services of existing experts. "There is a council for inter-ethnic relations under the President. I do not know why we need to multiply the essence, and I think that Igor Barinov will establish contact with the Council of the Presidency. It will only strengthen the interaction between different branches of government - the executive and political. However, the President's Council is a public, not a political structure. Therefore, if lawmakers want to create something else, it is their right," he pointed out.
