Steinmeier: The West does not need prolonged isolation of Russia

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the world and Europe are not interested in the long-term isolation of Russia, but the return of the Russian Federation to the format of the "Big Eight" is associated with the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

"It's not in our interests to isolate Russia for a long time. However, after the annexation of Crimea, which violated international law, we cannot pretend that nothing has happened and behave as if it were "business as usual". The path to the G8 lies through respecting the integrity of Ukraine and the Russian implementation of the commitments in the Minsk arrangements. Recent negotiations on the nuclear program of Iran, dramatic and unresolved conflicts in Syria, Yemen and Libya show, however, that we should have a self-interest to attract Russia to these decisions more," TASS quoted the head of the German Foreign Ministry.
