Italy will decide on construction of TAP by the end of May
Italian Minister of Economic Development Federica Guidi said during an Azerbaijani-Italian business forum in Baku that Italy is at the last stage of authorization (issue of permissions) for the construction of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) for Azerbaijani gas supplies to the EU."In view of the special importance of the matter, we have discussed it today at a meeting in Baku with the President of Azerbaijan. On behalf of the government, I can claim that Italy is preparing to give the latest permissions for the implementation of the project. The permits would be issued in agreed terms. It is important for us in terms of energy security provision," abc.az cited Guidi as saying.According to her, TAP and the Southern Gas Corridor is the best way to ensure the diversification of energy supplies and the energy security of the country.Her words were confirmed by the Vice President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Elshad Nasirov, who said that Italy is preparing to give final approval for the construction of TAP. "In accordance with the schedule, it should be done before the end of May, and we expect that this schedule will be followed," Nasirov said.TAP will enable to ensure the annual supply of up to 10 billion cu m of Azerbaijani gas a year to the EU, starting from 2020. In future, deliveries may be increased.
